Yeah, It's Monday!

Today at Morning Meeting, Maggie brought in a planet mobile that she had made, to share with her friends. She named each of the planets and explained that they got colder, the farther they are from the sun. Friends had lots of questions about the planets and about how Maggie had constructed her mobile.

Next, Naomi asked to share the recorder that she'd brought in. She played it for her friends and then answered a variety of questions about its sound and decorations.

We sang a few of our favorite songs and then played an adding game. The Turtles are really enjoying playing with numbers and we have a variety of counting and adding games woven into our daily routine. Today, after adding up fingers, toes, ears, eyes, nose and mouth, we tried to guess how many hairs we had on our heads.

Next, we tried a new game, "Story-Go-Round," where we made up up a story while circling around on the Storyteller's stool. It was hard to coordinate the talking and the moving, which may be why our story featured so many animals crashing into one another.

At Choice Time, Turtles selected from a variety of activities including: magnetic shapes, snack, the keyboard, dramatic play and the writing center with letter stickers and chalk.

In Movement Class, the Turtles enjoyed their first game of, "Duck, Duck, Goose." Any chance to chase one another at full speed is a cause for happiness. Then, Missy got out the balls for a round of kick and catch and then some dodge ball. The Turtles were good at aiming for each others feet, but dodging was not as easy.

Outside, we had more time to run and play and enjoy the balmy weather. Many of the Turtles turned into aliens and chased each other around speaking in robotic voices. Inside, we read, Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy, which gave us a chance to talk about what to do when you want to play one thing and your friend wants to do something else.

We practiced making the same mad faces as the kids in the book, and discussed how they were feeling.
Before we knew it, it was time to sing goodbye to our half-day friends and get ready for lunch. Over our meal, we talked about the upcoming Art Show, the materials we would have available and ideas the Turtles had for our big piece.
