Thinking Backward and Forward

The Turtles are starting to anticipate the final days of school, and we have been talking about plans for the summer and for next year. Some Turtles will be going to Pre-K, some to new schools, and some will have another year here, and so there is lots to look forward to. Mostly the Turtles seem excited about the coming adventures, but there is some amount of sadness as they move on from well loved people and place, and some amount of anticipation as they wonder if they will like their new adventures. At school, we are talking a lot about all these feelings, making books and finishing projects, and thinking about ways to remember all the good times we have had this year in the Turtle Room. Tamara and Carol told the class that they will be making something magical to remember the Turtle class by. Are the Turtles talking about this at home? What are the thoughts and feelings that they are sharing with you?

Our day was busy with story narration,

handprint painting
making music

more math trickery

meditation

a parade

and general merriment.

The Name is Nothing (or The Sound of Music)*

Tamara tried to stump the Turtles again today, with written double digit numbers and subtraction!

With the help of some blocks, they were not fooled.

At Morning Meeting, we talked about our summer plans. Many of the Turtles have started to think (and some to worry), about ending our time together and what will be coming next. We plan to have lots of talks about transitions in the coming days.

Inside Outside time was much more pleasant today, so we had snack outside and much running, riding and swinging.

Inside we built, mixed colors and worked on our books.

Beating the Heat

The Turtles were unfazed by the heat, opting to begin Inside Outside day early and switch to Inside Inside Day once it heated up. We are working on several projects at the moment, including a top secret project for our Moving On Day.
The work on the digital story book has also continued. The illustrations are just about done, and the narration has begun!

The dramatic play at Choice Time was amazing, involving herds of wild cats, princesses, overnights, wild trips, pillow jumping, firefighters, and cowboys. The ease with which the children play with each other is a joy to watch, they work hard at figuring out how to keep the play going when there is a problem, and they effortless pick up each others ideas. This is truly a group of  Master Players!

Blog #150!!!

We got ready for Morning Meeting early today, to beat the heat for Inside Outside time. Tamara tried again to stump the Turtles, by having them add up objects of different values. Once again, they could not be fooled.

We had some more yoga as letters of the alphabet.

At Morning Meeting, we talked about how to make the final decision for our Story title, and gave voting a try. We had a clear winner, and then went around and asked the Turtles whether or not they were ok with the choice, and they were!

For Inside Outside time, we had playdough...

...wild strawberries...

...dramatic play...

...swinging and running...

...and more illustrating for our Story!

There was also a full theater production, with narration and musical accompaniment.
